Gas mask bongs are nad1/9/2024 ![]() ![]() Abul suggested that tobacco "smoke should be first passed through a small receptacle of water so that it would be rendered harmless". ĭuring the reign of Emperor Akbar, physician Hakim Abul Fath invented the waterpipe in India, and discovered tobacco. The kurgan was discovered when construction workers were clearing land for the construction of a power line. The word bong is an adaptation of the Thai word bong or baung ( Thai: บ้อง, ), which refers to a cylindrical wooden tube, pipe, or container cut from bamboo, and which also refers to the bong used for smoking.Įxcavations of a kurgan in Russia in 2013 revealed that Scythian tribal chiefs used gold vessels 2400 years ago to smoke cannabis and opium. ![]() A January 1971 issue of the Marijuana Review also used the term. One of the earliest recorded uses of the word in the West is in the McFarland Thai-English Dictionary, published in 1944, which describes one of the meanings of bong in the Thai language as, "a bamboo waterpipe for smoking kancha, tree, hashish, or the hemp-plant". On bongs without such a hole, the bowl and/or the stem are removed to allow air from the hole that holds the stem.īongs have been in use by the Hmong in Laos and Thailand, as well all over Africa, for centuries. To get fresh air into the bong and harvest the last remaining smoke, a hole known as the "carburetor", "carb", "choke", "bink", "rush", "shotty", "kick hole", or simply "hole", somewhere on the lower part of the bong above water level, is first kept covered during the smoking process, then opened to allow the smoke to be drawn into the respiratory system. A bong may be constructed from any air- and water-tight vessel by adding a bowl and stem apparatus (or slide) which guides air downward to below water level whence it bubbles upward ("bubbler") during use. In construction and function, a bong is similar to a hookah, except smaller and especially more portable. In the bong shown in the photo, the smoke flows from the lower port on the left to the upper port on the right. For other uses, see Bong (disambiguation).Ī bong with a circular carburetion port in the front of the bowlĪ bong (also known as a water pipe) is a filtration device generally used for smoking cannabis, tobacco, or other herbal substances. For the preparation of cannabis leaves and flowers, see Bhang. ![]() This article is about a pipe that is used for smoking cannabis and other substances. ![]()

In June at its developer conference, Apple announced an upcoming "Kids" section in App Store, a new section featuring apps categorized by age range, and the section was launched alongside the release of iOS 7 in September 2013. In February 2013, Apple informed developers that they could begin using for links to their apps. ![]() Īpple announced Mac App Store, a similar app distribution platform for its macOS personal computer operating system, in October 2010, with the official launch taking place in January 2011 with the release of its 10.6.6 "Snow Leopard" update. "App" has been used as shorthand for " application" since at least the late 1970s, and in product names since at least 2006, for example then-named Google Apps. The term app has become a popular buzzword in January 2011, app was awarded the honor of being 2010's "Word of the Year" by the American Dialect Society. In July, Apple was denied preliminary injunction against Amazon's Appstore by a federal judge. District Judge Phyllis Hamilton, who was presiding over Apple's case against Amazon, said she would "probably" deny Apple's motion to stop Amazon from using the "App Store" name. trademark on the term "App Store" in 2008, which was tentatively approved in early 2011. Initially apps could be free or paid, but then in 2009, Apple added the ability to add in-app purchases which quickly became the dominant way to monetize apps, especially games.Īfter the success of Apple's App Store and the launch of similar services by its competitors, the term "app store" has been adopted to refer to any similar service for mobile devices. ![]() On July 11, the iPhone 3G was released and came pre-loaded with support for App Store. The iPhone App Store opened on July 10, 2008. However, backlash from developers prompted the company to reconsider, with Jobs announcing in October 2007 that Apple would have a software development kit available for developers by February 2008. While originally developing iPhone prior to its unveiling in 2007, Apple's then- CEO Steve Jobs did not intend to let third-party developers build native apps for iOS, instead directing them to make web applications for the Safari web browser. History Download on the App Store badge as of 2017 In October 2021, the Netherlands Authority for Consumers and Markets (ACM) concluded that in-app commissions from Apple's App Store are anti-competitive and would demand that Apple change its in-app payment system policies. ![]() While Apple touts the role of the App Store in creating new jobs in the "app economy" and claims to have paid over $155 billion to developers, the App Store has also attracted criticism from developers and government regulators that it operates a monopoly and that Apple's 30% cut of revenues from the store is excessive. As of 2021, the store features more than 1.8 million apps. The number of apps peaked at around 2.2 million in 2017, but declined slightly over the next few years as Apple began a process to remove old or 32-bit apps. Typeface meaning in design1/8/2024 ![]() More than just a literal translation of stammered speech – which by no doubt is a hard topic to materialise – it’s also an interpretation of it, pulled from the founder’s own experiences as well as through conversations with those featured in the magazine. “It is a massively personal experience as stammering can differ from person to person.” “A lot of the stammering experience is owed to feelings of shame, guilt and embarrassment,” says Conner. As mentioned, the font features signature stretches and repeating turns, used to evoke the definition of a stammer or stutter – that which is neurological yet presents itself as something that’s physical to those non-stammering. This personal quest to dive deep into the visual tones of his stammer led to the creation of its very own typeface, one that “emulates the voice of the speaker”. “I’ve become much more open abut my speech it’s allowed me to rethink how many stammer defines me, if at all.” “Rendering my own name in a way I ‘recognised’ helped me to stop fearing it, as so many people who stammer can find it tricky to say their own name.” Conor still finds himself stammering, “of course,” but the process of making Dysfluent alleviated a lot of the judgement associated with it. “Visually representing my stammer by repeated or stretching the letters seemed defiant at the time, almost as if I had given the middle finger to these words and letters that cased me so much grief for so many years,” he tells It’s Nice That. This idea to represent his stammer in a visual language formed the basis of the project, where topics of stammering pride and acceptance proved just how much disfluency needn’t be stigmatised in wider parts of society. A form of self-therapy, as Conor puts it, as for the first time he began investigating his speech.Ĭonor has always shown an interest in typography and the ways in which sound is visualised through design, two elements that spearheaded the creation for Dysfluent – a name that’s similar to the term disfluency, meaning the disruption in the ongoing flow of speech. What initially started as a university project “in that typical university attempt to work on something personal and unique” soon turned into a remedial outlet. “We’re actually a couple and our collaboration for Dysfluent was borne out of that,” Conor says, noting how his own personal experiences on the topic of stutters plus Bart’s affinity for printed matter drove the process. Bart is a graphic design graduate from Camberwell College of Arts and a freelance project manager. After studying visual communication in NCAD, Dublin and moving to London two years ago, he began working as a junior designer at 4Creative. Providing a platform for people to share honest stories about their experiences with it – whether they’re “awkward, funny, infuriating or heart-warming,” says editor Conor – the debut issue was an immensely personal endeavour that soon evolved into a bespoke typeface named Dysfluent Mono.Ĭonor has stammered his entire life. Last year, Conor Foran and Bart Rzeznik launched Dysfluent, an independent magazine about stammers. ![]()

Tony macaroni pizza1/8/2024 ![]() We were told no it wasnt allowed it would need to be paid in full at the end of the evening? When asked why as we had people drinking alcoholic beverages and others soft drinks which is very different in cost they said they didnt have just a til for drinks! Which shouldn't be allowed. We sat down ordered drinks and began our evening, we had paid a deposit and as we had preordered our meal we said we would pay the bill just now and then if people wanted another drink they could buy it themselves. I know 15minutes doesnt seem much of a difference however when it wasnt ready til 7.40 its just not acceptable. We arrived just after 7 to be told the booking wasnt til 7.30, we were asked to prove that is was booked for 7.15 which we were able to do. ![]() help speed up the process which would have been great if it had actually worked. We had a booking for 22 people at 7.15, prior to this we had been asked to provide a food order to. Went out last night 2nd September for my hen night and what should have been an amazing night was a complete train crash!! What shouldn't have been the start of a wonderful evening, as the main organiser it was an awful experience. Many toilets were without toilet roll and hand dryers do not work.Īs I had to pay the bill myself as stated above I did not realise nor was I given the opportunity to accept or decline the "optional service charge" which has been added to my bill after such an awful experience I would have declined. This was reported to the team which they where aware of. The toilets where horrendous and flooded with toilet water. 2 meals had to be returned as they were unfit to eat staff did not seem to care about this. When we eventually begun being served our meals it was 2 hours from when we arrived (bearing in mind they had our orders) it took around 40 minutes possibly more between the 1st and last people being served. I was then confronted by the fact we couldn't pay the end bill separately, I'd have to pay it all or gather cash from everyone myself as they could not have "20 odd transactions" I was then faced with a further challenge that my party could not buy individual drinks, we where refused and there method to resolve this was by offering tap water! Not wanting to spoil my sisters night I went along with it. I was then led to my multiple would have been great to know they couldn't accommodate us together as I would have booked elsewhere. As it was a large party, I had emailed the order the night before to help the kitchen team and also so save time. He then briefly apologised when I showed my confirmation email. I pleaded that the table was infact booked for 7.15, the man proceeded to state it was 7.30 and said ill. Arrived at 7.15 to be greeted by your table isn't ready as your early. ![]() ![]() I appreciate that Amazon continues to include a headphone jack with the Fire HD 10 (2021), which is something my current couch companion - the Lenovo Chromebook Duet - does not have. That just adds to its value, in my opinion. It can take most bumps, scrapes, and even drops and keep on rolling. Many have scoffed at the plastic build, but one thing's for sure - you don't have to baby this thing. Because it's made out of plastic, it's light, durable, and easy to hold for long periods of time, whether you're reading a Kindle book or catching up on your favorite streaming series. The Fire HD 10 (2021) pretty much looks and feels like its predecessors, but that's not a bad thing at all. The Fire HD 10 (2021) is light and durable, making it easy to hold up for long binge-watching sessions. Well, much of that has changed now with these new Fire HD 10 tablets. On the other hand, the Fire tablets have been relatively underpowered for productivity, can't (easily) run Google apps and services, and haven't had as many good Bluetooth keyboard accessories. You've always had pretty decent screens, expandable storage options, headphone jacks, and ridiculously rugged durability. Amazon has skimped with specs in some areas (like the cameras or materials) and instead provided its customers with affordable portals to enjoy its and other partners' content. I've owned or reviewed more than a half-dozen Fire tablets over the years, and the one thing that you can consistently say about them is that they've been consistently good. (Image credit: Source: Jeramy Johnson / Android Central) These two new models differ in the available RAM (mentioned above), the color options (mentioned in the table here), and the fact that the HD 10 Plus can charge wirelessly with a compatible wireless charging dock. Interestingly, both devices also comply with Amazon's Climate Pledge Friendly program and are comprised of over a quarter of post-consumer recycled content (more on this later). Both are available in a Productivity Bundle, including a surprisingly nice Bluetooth Keyboard case and a 12-month subscription to Microsoft Office 365 Personal edition. Both have increased RAM over the 2019 model (3GB for the standard Fire HD 10 and 4GB for the HD 10 Plus). Of course, the biggest change to the 2021 model(s) is that there are now two Fire HD 10 devices. ![]() And while the internal storage configurations are the same as last time, you now get twice the external storage capacity of up to 1TB via a microSD card.
